A baby asked God, “They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?”
“Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you.”
The child further inquired, “But tell me, here in heaven I don’t have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy.”
God said, “Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel’s love and be very happy.”
Again the child asked, “And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don’t know the language?”
God said, “Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.”
“And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?”
God said, “Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.”
“Who will protect me?”
God said, “Your angel will defend you even if it means risking it’s life.”
“But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore.”
God said, “Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you.”
At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, “God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel’s name.”
“You will simply call her, ‘Mom.’”
M-O-T-H-E-R
“M” is for the million things she gave me,
“O” means only that she’s growing old,
“T” is for the tears she shed to save me,
“H” is for her heart of purest gold;
“E” is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
“R” means right, and right she’ll always be,
Put them all together, they spell “MOTHER,”
A word that means the world to me.

Earthquake 2.8 quake

Earthquake: 2.8 quake strikes near La Habra

A shallow magnitude 2.8 earthquake was reported Saturday morning one mile from La Habra,  according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 3:31 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 0 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was two miles from Fullerton, two miles from Brea, and  three miles from Buena Park.
5.1 earthquake causes damage; some flee from homes
The small quake hit more than six hours after a 5.1 temblor shook Los Angeles and Orange counties, knocking items off store shelves, breaking water mains and rattling nerves.
The first of a swarm of earthquakes hit the border of La Habra and Brea shortly after 8 p.m. with a 3.6 temblor. About an hour later, at 9:09 p.m., the 5.1 shock hit, followed by at least two more aftershocks in the 3-point range in the next half hour. At least 20 aftershocks had been recorded by late Friday.
In the past 10 days, there have been five earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
This information comes from the USGS Earthquake Notification Service and this post was created by an algorithm written by the author.

8 dead in Washington

Mudslide Toll Rises to Eight, With at Least 18 Still Missing

Eighteen people were still unaccounted for in the wake of a mudslide in Washington state as the death toll rose to eight Sunday evening.
Lt. Rob Palmer of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office told NBC News that a total of eight bodies had been found in the square mile of debris, rocks, trees and mud by nightfall Sunday.
At a news conference earlier Sunday, Snohomish County Fire District 21 Chief Travis Hots said, “We didn’t find anybody alive. There was no sign of life” after emergency crews scoured much of the affected area on foot.
The number of people missing people is "fluid," Hots said.
The slide, which occurred around 11 a.m. (2 p.m. ET) Saturday, turned land that spanned neighborhoods into "quicksand," Hots said earlier Sunday.
The mud is up to 15 feet deep in places, according to the Snohomish County government, making some search techniques impossible to employ. “Thermal imaging cameras are generally effective on a surface area. If someone’s buried, that won’t be effective,” Hots said.

On Saturday night, search teams heard people yelling from a home in the path of the slide, but a rescue operation "was not successful."

The mud was just too thick and deep,” Hots said.
"The voices they're hearing are literally encased in 20 feet of mud," said Greg Regelbrugge, whose brother, John, and sister-in-law are among the missing.
“John's 32 years in the Navy,” Regelbrugge said. “If someone can survive it, it's him. And he's with his wife I'm sure.”
And he's with his wife I'm sure.”
Rescuers who tried to reach affected homes on Saturday “got dragged in up to their armpits and had to be dragged out by ropes themselves,” said Washington Gov. Jay Inslee during a briefing Sunday.
Two helicopters were deployed to search for victims, in hopes that rescuers would be able to trudge through the hazardous conditions to free them, Hots said.
Another risk to the 100 rescuers was the potential overflow of the Stillaguamish River, which has been blocked by the slide and was rising 10-12 inches every half hour, said John Pennington, director of the Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management.
A general view of the area affected by a landslide near State Route 530 close to Oso, Wash., March 22, 2014.
The river could eventually back up and slowly cause a flood — or quickly break through the blockage and cause a deluge, Pennington said.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning in Snohomish until Sunday at 5 p.m. (8 ET).
“We really have two disaster operations going, one that has occurred ... and another that most likely can occur,” Pennington said Sunday.
The river's dam breached "slightly" Sunday afternoon, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, but officials assured the "flow won't be catastrophic."
Evacuation orders were lifted during daylight hours, but Pennington urged residents of the 180-person town of Oso to keep radios on and be ready to flee their homes at a moment's notice.

The Snohomish chapter of the American Red Cross has set up two evacuation centers for those who were displaced and those who may need to evacuate, said spokesman Colin Downey.
Gov. Jay Inslee proclaimed a state of emergency Saturday.
“We want to stress that this federal declaration is an issue of finances,” Inslee said Sunday. “There will be significant losses.”
Neighbors gather at the Oso Fire Department to wait for updates about the fatal mudslide that washed over homes and over Highway 530 east of Oso, Wash., on March 22, 2014.
Inslee said he flew over the disaster area in a helicopter Sunday and viewed, "something I’ve never seen before.”
“People have seen pictures of course, but it is 10 times more devastating when you see it yourself,” he added.
Among the injured was a 6-month-old in critical condition, according to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The hospital was also treating a 37-year-old man and an 81-year-old man, both in critical condition, and a 58-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman in serious condition, said spokeswoman Susan Gregg.
Officials did not identify any of the victims who died beyond saying that they were “Washingtonians,” Inslee said.
A mile-long stretch of State Route 530 remained closed Sunday "with a big wall of mud and debris," Hots said.
The cause of the slide appears to be that the ground was oversaturated by heavy rainfall, the Snohomish County government said in a statement.
"We’ve set records for rainfalls in the area this March," Washington State Patrol Trooper Mark Francis told NBC News on Saturday.
Rodney Rochon of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office told NBC affiliate King 5 that the slide is the worst he's seen in the area in decades.
"Think back to what Mount St. Helens and the Toutle River looked like (following the 1980 eruption) — and that's what we're looking at," Rochon told the station.

Google Glass

Larry Page is on stage at TED right now. I'm at home watching.
He is not wearing Google Glass.
This fits the new narrative that's going on in my head: that Google doesn't know how to stick with a product. Remember Google Wave? It was a very interesting idea, but Google gave up on it very quickly. Why? Because it was controversial and the execution wasn't good.
Will Google stick with Glass? I'm starting to be very skeptical.
Look at Google+. Has Google fixed what bugs me about the service? No. The first week I asked for real, algorithmic noise filtering (like what Gmail now has). No mas.
I asked for Google+ to stop asking me to follow people who have never posted. No mas.
Google Glass is a deeply flawed product. I wrote about how in my "Google Glass is doomed" post:
But it is getting worse. I've had entrepreneurs tell me that Google is still arguing internally about whether Glass should be used for games and augmented reality (some on the team believe no). It is ridiculous that the team hasn't made a clean decision so everyone can move forward at this late date.
I've had investors tell me (even ones in the "Glass Collective") that they are not gonna invest until Google gives them real answers, like what the price will be for the general public and timelines for when things like APIs will be firmed up (they are not yet) and a real distribution method, er, a store, will be turned on.
It's amazing to me that for a product that was announced nearly two years ago that Google still hasn't signaled to the public what really is going on with this product.
Worse, I see a lack of CEO support of Glass as a very troubling statement. If Larry isn't wearing Glass, it doesn't mean good things for the project.
Can Google really finish something truly paradigm shifting? "We need revolutionary change," Page just said to Charlie Rose. Does he really believe that? Why not wear Glass on stage then? Why not explain where Glass is going?
My skepticism is going up every day I don't hear answers. Google IO is now at the end of June. Will the answers come by then? I sure hope so.
I'm happy that Larry is talking about context and making our devices understand us better, that's the "Age of Context" that Shel Israel and I wrote about last year.
But the context is that Google Glass is a deeply flawed product and I expected a LOT more improvements by now, 11 months after I first got mine.

Putin: Crimea

Russian President Vladimir Putin addresses the Federal Assembly, including State Duma deputies, members of the Federation Council, regional governors and civil society representatives, at the Kremlin in Moscow March 18, 2014.
Crimea’s secession from Ukraine was just like Kosovo’s secession from Serbia, and any arguments otherwise are just attempts to bend the West-advocated rules that were applied to the Kosovo case, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
The statements came as Putin was addressing the Russian parliament to convince lawmakers to ratify a treaty, which would make Crimea part of the Russian Federation.
In the speech he challenged Washington’s position, which says that Kosovo was a unique case and could not justify any other move towards independence in the world.
“Our western partners created the Kosovo precedent with their own hands. In a situation absolutely the same as the one in Crimea they recognized Kosovo’s secession from Serbia legitimate while arguing that no permission from a country’s central authority for a unilateral declaration of independence is necessary,”Putin reminded, adding that the UN International Court of Justice agreed to those arguments.
“That’s what they wrote, that what they trumpeted all over the world, coerced everyone into it – and now they are complaining. Why is that?” he asked.
Putin dismissed the argument that Kosovo was unique due to the large number of victims during the Balkan wars and the dissolution of Yugoslavia.
“It’s beyond double standards,” Putin said. “It’s a kind of baffling, primitive and blatant cynicism. One can’t just twist things to fit his interests, to call something white on one day and black on the next one.”
The president dismissed the allegations that Russia is violating international law with its actions in Ukraine.
“Well’ it’s good that they at least recalled that there is international law. Thank you very much. Better late than never,” Putin said adding that in fact nothing of this kind happened.
Watch President Putin's speech in full

‘In Ukraine the West crossed the red line’

In fact, it was Russia that defended international law and its institutions, while western countries have been diminishing them. The situation in Crimea is just a reflection of this broader process, which has been happening for decades now.
“In the practical application of policies, our western partners – the United States first and foremost – prefer to be guided not by international law, but by the right of strength. They believe in their exceptionalism, that they are allowed to decide on the fate of the world, that they are always right,” Putin charged.
This disregard to rule of law was evident in Yugoslavia in 1999, when NATO bombed the country without a UN Security Council mandate, the Russian president said. There was Afghanistan, Iraq and the perversion of the UNSC resolution on Libya, when instead of imposing a no-fly zone NATO bombed the country into submission.
There were also orchestrated “colored revolutions” in Europe and the Arab World, which cynically used the feelings of people tired with corruption and poverty. The latest Ukrainian events are just the latest of such actions, and Russia’s willingness to seek dialogue and compromise was stonewalled again, Putin said.

“They were cheating us once more, took decisions behind our back, presented us with a fait accompli,” he said, adding that the patter is identical to that which accompanied NATO’s expansion to the east, the deployment of an anti-ballistic missile system, visa restrictions and numerous other issues.
“They are constantly trying to corner us in retaliation for our having an independent position, for defending it, for calling things by their names and not being hypocritical,” Putin accused. “Everything has its limits, and in Ukraine our western partners crossed the red line. They acted brutally, irresponsibly and unprofessionally.”
Putin said the West must stop being hysterical, restrain from the Cold War rhetoric and admit the obvious: “Russia is an independent and active participant of international relations. Just like any nation it has national interests that must be taken into consideration and respected.”
As for the Ukrainian red line, the coup-imposed authorities in Kiev voiced their desire to join NATO, and such a move would pose an imminent threat to Russia, Putin said.
“We stand against having a military organization meddling in our backyard, next to our homeland or in the territories that are historically ours. I just cannot imagine visiting NATO sailors in Sevastopol,” he stressed. “Most of them are fine lads, by the way. But rather let them visit us in Sevastopol than the other way around.”
At the end of his speech, Putin announced the submission to parliament of a draft federal law which would incorporate Crimea and the City of Sevastopol into Russian territory, as well as a request to ratify an international treaty with the government of Crimea to make this happen. He said he was sure of the legislature’s support for both documents.

A review of emails and a flight simulator finds nothing to suggest the pilot planned to divert the Malaysia Airlines flight.

The house of Fariq Abdul Hamid, the copilot of the missing Malaysian airliner, in Kuala Lumpur.

WASHINGTON — A review of emails and a search of a home flight simulator have found nothing to suggest the pilots on missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 purposely diverted it from its Beijing destination, according to two U.S. law enforcement officials.
"Nothing stuck out," said one of the sources, who was briefed on the search conducted by Malaysian officials.
The findings Tuesday appeared to undercut theories of a suicide, even as U.S. law enforcement officials continued to focus on hijack scenarios or other means of sabotage, including whether someone preprogrammed some of the aircraft's computer systems to execute the diversion.
"It's still possible that someone entered the cockpit and took the flight a different direction," said one U.S. source, speaking confidentially because the inquiry is ongoing. "Or it was tinkered with beforehand."
An additional theory remains that one of the pilots "took it upon himself" to divert the plane for unknown reasons, the source said.
The crew could have been trying to divert the aircraft toward the Malaysian island of Langkawi, which has a 13,000-foot runway and an easy approach, one commercial pilot suggested in an Internet posting that stirred much discussion Tuesday.
A team of investigators with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board has been dispatched to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's capital. That team is headed by John Lovell, a longtime NTSB investigator with experience in assisting foreign governments with crash investigations.
China's role in the search, now encompassing about 3 million square miles, also appeared to grow Tuesday. The official New China News Agency said two naval groups turned westward, toward the Andaman Islands, and waters southwest of Sumatra, an island in western Indonesia. They join two U.S. anti-submarine surveillance aircraft combing the south Indian Ocean.
Malaysian authorities have been focusing on the crew since declaring Saturday that the Boeing 777's sharp and sudden diversion about 50 minutes into the March 8 flight from Kuala Lumpur resulted from a "deliberate action by someone on the plane."
The U.S. source said his Malaysian counterparts were eager to determine whether the pilot, Zaharie Ahmad Shah, might have been training for such a maneuver on his home simulator, specifically how to turn off the transponders and other in-flight devices. But, the source said, investigators "didn't find that."
He said authorities had discovered nothing particularly disturbing in the pilots' personal lives. The copilot, Fariq Abdul Hamid, was preparing for his wedding, the source said.
Conversations between the cockpit and the air traffic control tower in Malaysia were friendly, routine and professional, with no hint of impending trouble, he said.
U.S. officials believe the plane eventually crashed into water, the source said. "As we get further into this, the percentages rest in the ocean. You have to believe the plane crashed into the ocean."
Pilots have been implicated in several high-profile airplane crashes in recent years, most famously EgyptAir Flight 990 in 1999 and SilkAir Flight 185 in 1997, but in both cases, government officials disputed U.S. investigative findings of pilot suicide.
James E. Rosenberg, a Woodland Hill-based forensic psychiatrist who investigated the SilkAir flight from Jakarta to Singapore, concluded that the Indonesian and Singaporean governments missed warning signs about the pilot's financial problems, impulsive behavior and anger over disciplinary actions.
"You got to understand that typical suicide does not apply here. Pilots are high-functioning, stress-resilient people You are not going to expect that these guys are crying, not shaving, not getting out of bed. You have to look at more subtle signs,'' said Rosenberg. "What turned out to be important was not that he continued to look social and friendly and relaxed in casual contact ... but that privately he was angry and vindictive.''
Rosenberg said the pilot had also taken pains to disguise his culpability in the crash. "In killing himself, he was potentially going to provide extensive insurance for his family. If he was able to make it look like an accident, he would avoid the humiliation to his family."
After Sept. 11, airlines reinforced cockpit doors to deter hijackers, but little has been done to protect aircraft if the pilot is the malefactor. A pilot can turn off the plane's communications or turn off the cabin pressurization, something that could be done to incapacitate passengers.
"What pilots can do is almost limitless. The question is why they would want to do it. What is the motivation?" said Jason Middleton, head of the aviation department at New South Wales University in Sydney, Australia. "If you are going to commit suicide, you'd have to be a hardhearted person to take 238 others with you.''
The Malaysian newspaper Berita Harian reported Tuesday that investigators found software in the simulator for Male International Airport in Maldives, three airports in India and Sri Lanka, and one belonging to the U.S. military base on Diego Garcia.

Definitions

Because the nature of what is erotic is fluid,[5] early definitions of the term attempted to conceive eroticism as some form of sensual or romantic love or as the human sex drive (libido); for example, the Encyclopédie of 1755 states that the erotic "is an epithet ork: 1972) critics have often confused eroticism with pornography, going so far as to say: "[Eroticism] is simply high-class pornography; better produced, better conceived, better executed, better packaged, designed for a better class of consumer."[6] However, because eroticism is wholly dependent on the viewer's culture and personal tastes pertaining to what, exactly, defines the erotic,[7][8] This confusion, as Lynn Hunt writes, "demonstrate the difficulty of drawing...a clear generic demarcation between the erotic and the pornographic": indeed arguably "the history of the separation of pornography from eroticism...remains to be written".[9]

Psychoanalytical approach

For a psychoanalytical definition, as early as Freud[10] psychotherapists have turned to the ancient Greek philosophy's "overturning of mythology"[citation needed] as a definition to understanding of the heightened aesthetic.[11] For Plato, Eros takes an almost transcendent manifestation when the subject seeks to go beyond itself and form a communion with the objectival other: "the true order of going...to the things of love, is to use the beauties of earth as steps...to all fair forms, and from fair forms to fair actions, and from fair actions to fair notions, until from fair notions he arrives at the notion of absolute beauty".[12]

French philosophy

Modern French conceptions of eroticism can be traced to The Enlightenment,[13] when "in the eighteenth century, dictionaries defined the erotic as that which concerned love...eroticism was the intrusion into the public sphere of something that was at base private".[14] This theme of intrusion or transgression was taken up in the twentieth century by the French philosopher Georges Bataille, who argued that eroticism performs a function of dissolving boundaries between human subjectivity and humanity, a transgression that dissolves the rational world but is always temporary,[15] as well as that, "Desire in eroticism is the desire that triumphs over the taboo. It presupposes man in conflict with himself".[16] For Bataille, as well as many French theorists, "Eroticism, unlike simple sexual activity, is a psychological quest...eroticism is assenting to life even in death".[17]

Non-heterosexual

Queer theory and LGBT studies consider the concept from a non-heterosexual perspective, viewing psychoanalytical and modernist views of eroticism as both archaic[18] and heterosexist,[19] written primarily by and for a "handful of elite, heterosexual, bourgeois men"[20] who "mistook their own repressed sexual proclivities"[21] as the norm.[22]
Theorists like Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick,[23] Gayle S. Rubin[24] and Marilyn Frye[25] all write extensively about eroticism from a heterosexual, lesbian and separatist point of view, respectively, seeing Eroticism as both a political force[26] and cultural critique[27] for marginalized groups, or as Mario Vargas Llosa summarized: "Eroticism has its own moral justification because it says that pleasure is enough for me; it is a statement of the individual's sovereignty"
